About Jen Grisanti
An internationally recognized story and career consultant, former television executive, author, speaker, writing instructor, 13-year instructor for NBC’s Writers on the Verge, and former Vice President of Current Programming at CBS/Paramount, Jen Grisanti brings more than two decades of industry experience to helping writers tell and sell their stories.
Like yours, Jen’s story began by working with someone who truly believed in her. Mentored by legendary producer Aaron Spelling for 12 years, she learned early on how to develop a story and make a script as strong as possible before it aired. Beginning her career in 1992 as Spelling’s assistant, she quickly rose through the ranks at Spelling Television and ultimately ran Current Programs, overseeing more than 15 primetime series, including Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, and Charmed.
In 2004, Grisanti was promoted to Vice President of Current Programming at CBS/Paramount, where she oversaw series including Medium, NUMB3RS, NCIS, The 4400, and Girlfriends. Working closely with executive producers, showrunners, and writing staffs, she gave daily script notes and saw those notes implemented week after week — an experience that gave her a rare understanding of both storytelling and the business of television.
As a mentor for the CBS/Diversity Program and a panelist for organizations including the WGA and DGA, Grisanti helped emerging creatives see the industry through an executive’s eyes. Those experiences reinforced something she knows firsthand: the importance of working with someone who believes in you.
In January 2008, Grisanti launched Jen Grisanti Consultancy Inc. to give back what Aaron Spelling and many others gave her — mentorship, experience, and focused guidance designed to help writers achieve their dreams. Drawing on her years as a studio executive, where giving story and script notes was part of her daily work, she personally guides writers in shaping material, honing pitches, defining voice, and focusing careers.
Since launching the company, Grisanti has worked with more than 2,000 writers specializing in television, features, and novels. Her clients have achieved 131 pilot sales, including 14 series orders, and more than 178 writers she has mentored have staffed on television shows.
Known for providing the personal attention often missing in the industry, Grisanti serves as a “Personal Studio Executive,” bringing care, experience, and a deep love of storytelling to every project.
Grisanti is also the author of three books: Story Line: Finding Gold in Your Life Story, TV Writing Tool Kit: How to Write a Script That Sells, and Change Your Story, Change Your Life: A Path to Your Success. In 2009, she was invited to become a blogger for The Huffington Post (now HuffPost).
Her brand focus — “Telling and Selling Your Story and Developing From Within” — grew from her own turning points, including the end of a long-term relationship and the loss of a beloved career after 15 years with the same company. Drawing from those experiences, Grisanti empowers others to transform adversity into purpose and become the authors of their own lives.
As a speaker, Grisanti addresses topics including telling and selling your story, defining your voice, blending fiction with personal truth, and becoming the author of your own life. She has taught internationally for organizations and retreats including Screenwriters Safari (South Africa), Rocaberti Writers’ Retreat (Spain, France, and Italy), Alta Yoga/Writing Retreat (Nicaragua), TV Writers Summit (in LA and London), The TV Writers Studio (in Australia), The Big Island Film Festival, Chicago Screenwriters Network, Scriptwriters Network, Screenwriting Expo, the Great American Pitchfest, the Northwestern Screenwriter’s Guild in Seattle, and the Alameda’s Writer’s Group. She has also appeared on panels for the WGA, iTVFest, UFVA, PGA, and The Writer’s Bootcamp, telling her story to inspire others.
Grisanti earned a B.A. in Communications from USC.
